English - Media & Non-Fiction Texts - Interviews

Many interviews are presented in written form in newspapers, magazines and also on the internet.

One way that an interview can be presented is to provide a transcript of the interview. This means that the questions that the interviewer asked are written down and the interviewee’s response is given in the actual words they used.

Some interviews are presented as a report, based on what has been said at the interview. Here, the interviewer reports what he or she has been told by the person that they interviewed.

Media interviews can serve a number of purposes. They can:

allow the interviewer to reveal their ideas to the reader

allow the interviewer to show aspects of their subject that are new

inform the reader about a certain topic

entertain the reader

provoke controversy

reveal the truth
