English - Writing to Argue, Persuade & Advise - Writing to Persuade

You aim is to try to make your reader do or believe something.

Write subjectively and give your personal view.

Try to appeal to your reader's emotions as much as to their reason.

We constantly see language used in a variety of ways to try to persuade us to do something - for example in commercial advertisements.

Other examples - of writing that might be used to persuade:

advertisements

public service brochures

charity brochures

letters to newspapers

texts of speeches

magazine & newspaper articles
